Visitor statistics

We use Google Analytics to count visits plus the pages people read, so we can improve the site. We only look at the results as totals. For visitors in the UK plus Europe it is set up so it stores no analytics cookies on your device. We do not use it for advertising or link it to you by name.

You can turn statistics off on this browser at any time with the link below. It saves a small cookie called bc_optout so the site remembers your choice.

How you found us

When you arrive, a small script notes how you reached the site, for example a Google search, a link on another website or typing in the address. It keeps this in your browser tab only and deletes it when you close the tab. If you send us an enquiry, that note goes with your message so we can see which searches plus websites bring enquiries in. It never includes analytics IDs. Turning statistics off above stops this too.

Spam protection

Google reCAPTCHA loads on every page because our Book Now form sits in the menu on every page. We only use it to stop automated spam. It looks at how the page is used plus details about your browser and device, which it sends to Google. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

Videos

Our videos use YouTube’s privacy mode, so YouTube does not set cookies until you press play. The player still loads from YouTube when the page opens, so YouTube sees your IP address and saves some information in your browser. YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.

Reviews, fonts plus images

The Google reviews on our homepage load through a widget from Elfsight. Our fonts load from Google Fonts and author photos on blog posts load from Gravatar. Each of these services sees your IP address so it can send the content to your browser and follows its own privacy policy.

Keeping the site running

Our hosting company SiteGround may set a cookie to check a visitor is a real person during a suspected attack. Blog posts count their views with a small cookie so one visit only counts once. People who log in to manage the site get login cookies that visitors never receive.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies for our spam protection may stop our forms from sending.
